Quadrev Creative Computing Outreach Program
Science and Technology plays a
major role in contemporary society with potential to improve lives in diverse
ways. Considering the role Kano plays to all the northern states as the “Lagos
of the North”, the exigency to invest massively in
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) cannot be
over-emphasized, if the northern part of the country must progress and catch up
with the rest of the world. There is an urgent need to encourage
northern kids/youths to pursue career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering
and Math (STEM) as well as understanding the opportunities that are available
to students of math and science.
To this end, the
Quadrev Creative computing outreach program was created as an extension of
Quadrev Fasaha Hub’s Educational and community development outreach program in
North-east, North-west and North-central Nigeria, to inspire, empower and
expose kids/youths between ages 6 to 18+ years to become creative engineers at
an early age i.e. help them to develop creative skills as they grow and create
challenges that spark their imagination through creative computing/ (STEM
EDUCATION) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Ahmad
Aminu Idris is the Lead, Technical Trainer at Quadrev creative Computing
Outreach Programs. He specializes in embedded systems
design automation with special skills in Power electronics, Digital
systems, C programming, MATLAB, systems engineering, VHDL, Analogue and digital
electronics, Radio frequency, Electrical Distribution, Advanced Communication
Systems. He holds a joint Honors (B.Eng.) Electronics/Communications
Engineering from the University of Birmingham, England with Lab stints in
Beijing, China. He had his primary education in the city of Kano, and Secondary
at Air Force Military School (AFMS) Jos.
Ahmed’s motivation lies in giving Kids in Northern Nigeria an early
start in creative computing and spur their creativity to solve the needs for
our immediate environment e.g. constructing and making gadgets smarter with a
range of sensors for detecting things like humidity, temperature, pulse, colour,
and carbon monoxide, how code could make characters move around a screen and
make them talk all together. We help design programs and kits that help kids between age
(6-18+yrs) provoke their curiosity and creativity and play to invent and
re-invent the future. Our special needs programs span across Quadrev Girls
Stem education program, Quadrev Fasahar High impact Internship program in Computing - Software Development-Applications, Robotics, Embedded Systems, and
Electronics. You can read more on our programs at www.quadrev.com/creativecomputingprogram
