My name is Oluwasowapo Alonge known as Sowa. I am an Abuja based independent rapper, singer, producer and artiste. Painting pictures for the ears and making music for the mind. I've been making music since the 10th grade but music has always been a part of my life. My family never fail to remind me that as a baby I would hum along to tunes on tv and as a little kid I would always compose my own special songs.
My influences vary between genres but I am a firm believer in the evolution and growth of music through time. So although I have great love and respect for old music, my main inspirations come from the newer sounds.
Making music is a passion of mine and something I love doing. I believe if music is not your passion then there is really no reason for you to be making it. I also think that is the problem that the music scene is facing today especially in Nigeria. We have a lot of "artists" doing music because that is what is popular to do. So above all I'm most especially a music lover and I appreciate the beauty in all genres.
I'm a multi-genre artist ranging from rap, to rnb, to trap and Afro hop. My style of music on the other hand can be encapsulated in one word "me". I feel music should be an honest expression of ones life, ones experience and ones self. There are too many artists out there lying to people and serving them a false lifestyle. All I want to do is share my life, my views, my thoughts and myself through my music. I'm not about flexing. So my dream and hope is to just be one the best doing it right.
Due to the emphasis I put on delivery and packaging, my music may sometimes come off as mainstream, but if you listen close you will hear that I am talking real truths. I believe that there is this mental divide between conscious music and mainstream music. Where one has to sound a certain way to be talking real truths. I don't believe in that. So in my music I try to bridge that divide by giving you the conscious music with the mainstream delivery. Not to say that all my music is conscious because sometimes I do get in the studio and just have a good time, but most times my music is like candy you need to look under the wrapper.
I have got two projects coming out this year for you to look out for. The first being my debut mixtape titled Road to Balmain. It is titled this because it is my first step on the road to riches. I have been working on it since summer of last year and it promises to be an epic experience. My next project is a collaborative ep with a fast rising producer based in the UK and that one is bringing all the bangers. This is just the beginning of my musical career and there is a lot more to go.
Beyond the music I am also the visionary behind #TheCapitalMovement which is a movement supporting the best and brightest of Abuja talents. If you know me you will know that I love my city and I'm proud of what is coming out from its new generation of artists. I believe we should all have that hometown love and pride. We should believe and support in our homegrown talent, because the Capital is great.
