BHP premieres the video for their hit single , 'Emirati'. BHP is new rap crew that came together in 2012 in Zaria. Quoting the group themselves, they are a group coined by the universe itself. They boast of multiple singles already but this is their first video. Capital City Magazine caught up with them for an exclusive inteview.
CCM: What is BHP?
BHP (D33): BHP stands for Bigheadphones. We are a collective of artists.
CCM: How many artists make up the group?
BHP (everyone): 5 artists. 4 rappers namely Zik (real name Zachary Kwaga), Abyssinia (Paul Stephen), Mr. HD (Ibrahim Otaru) and Dee ('D33', Dauda Usman) and a singer called Ross (Esiro Aigbudume).
CCM: How did the group come about?
BHP (Zik): Each of us were on our own individual journeys as artists then we met in school (ABU) in 2012. The connection happened naturally, according to the forces of the universe. That's the only explanation there is to give.

CCM: What kind of music do you make?
BHP (Abyssinia): Good music mayne. HipHop, Rap, R&B, Reggae. Just good music. Sometimes we put them together and call it eclectic with respect to the amount of energy we put into each and every song.
CCM: How far have you gone in the music business?
BHP (Mr. HD): Not far enough really. We've made strides in the sense that people are familiar with the group and all. We have over 80 songs online for free download including a mixtape and a full blown EP. And our first official video of course but we still have a lot to do in terms of progress.
CCM: What are the challenges?
BHP (Ross): Financial challenges mainly. Industry challenges. Trying to permeate an already saturated market.
CCM: What's your point of view on the Nigerian music industry?
BHP: It's doing alright. But still lagging in originality. I think it needs a little dose of BHP.

CCM: Who directed the video and what inspired the video?
BHP (Zik): It was directed by Reuben Reng. The video was inspired by everybody mayne including our non-creative or non-musical staff as we like to call them. The likes of Jaff, Ak, Dan and Sketch. We got together and we made it happen.
CCM: Why did you all chose Abuja as the location for the video shoot?
BHP (Ross): Its the centre of activity for us so it was a no brainer to shoot it there.
CCM: Word of advice to up and coming artists?
BHP (Mr. HD): Keep your head up. 2pacalypse is on the rise. With the change in government and all, there are new heights to be reached in every aspects of being a Nigerian therefore anyone can be the next big thing in the industry.
