The Love Of A Fragile Heart by Khalifa Baba-Ahmed

It starts from a mere coincidence, none of us planned to meet.
Before I  could realize I could spot the difference you have from others I’ve met
I've gotten used to your company even though you play hard-to-get
How I wish I could protect that thing that beats in my left chest
It’s been broken in the past, but I'm aware life is a test

I'm used to taking chances, though I know how bad it breaks
So I hand it over to you, with the hope you won’t be a mistake
Are you going to embrace it, and love me back in return?
Because if I could give it out to you, then just let me have this turn
But what if it cannot happen, do I give up and carry on?
Or do I keep pushing it, until I feel like a moron?

The strength of letting go, the love of a fragile heart
Maybe you don’t understand I didn’t plan this right from the start
Nothing in me can show you how much this gives me pain
Sometimes I get this feeling that I can’t love again
Although I'm lonely in my world and I feel the pain alone
I feel my heart so solid, as hard as a stone

The strength of letting go, the love of a fragile heart
There’s no love I can’t show you, just let me play my part.
It goes round like a circle, either of us is smart
But I don’t know how to let go, THE LOVE OF A FRAGILE HEART!!

M'dahlia Luxury Soaps

Cosmetic Chemistry is English to me, says the owner of M'Dahlia.
M'Dahlia is a start up company that produces luxury soaps and is owned by a very determined, young Miss Amina Abdulhamid. Citing having sensitive skin herself as inspiration, the company has been running for about 2 years. Capital City Magazine caught up with her for a chat at the Fusion Lifestyle Event.

Amina Abdulhamid told CCM that the challenges she faced were not so different from other entrepreneurs; lack of proper government support for SMEs, energy availability and insufficiency of capital. She mentioned challenges peculiar to her such as the fact that she lives in Kaduna while her market base is in Abuja. She maintains a job as well.

She explained how her product is different from other soaps. It is an "attractive" soap that leaves you wondering whether to take a bath with it or eat it. Her soaps are made of organic oil, mild on the skin and are completely bio friendly. They will leave you clean, refreshed and smelling nice.

EDITOR'S PAGE: Founder/Editor-in-Chief

My name is Khalifa Baba Ahmed, popularly known as Huba. An indigene of Zaria, Kaduna State, I was born on the 15th of September in the late 1980s in Kaduna. My family moved to Abuja when I was 5 years old, where I attended Olumawu Nursery and Primary School in Wuse 2 for my primary education. I then proceeded to Zaria Academy in Shika - Zaria, Kaduna State for my secondary education. I am currently a final year Economics Student at Nile University Abuja.  The fourth of 15 children, I am the proud founder and Editor-in-Chief of Capital City Magazine.

The idea of starting this publication was inspired by several life experiences along with my new found love for photo journalism - telling captivating stories with pictures. More inspiration sprung from my experiences regarding the struggle to become a successful entrepreneur, the most important part of this life experience being my struggle to become an entrepreneur at a fairly early age. At 15, I went into the music and entertainment industry. I started a company called Sound Ballerz Entertainment three years later and began hosting shows and events. I’ve also worked on several other promising projects that involve artistic expression. I have come to understand that creativity is my drive, especially when it comes to expressing myself well enough to capture people's attention. I realized that starting a magazine could provide a platform for other struggling start-ups, upcoming entrepreneurs and talented individuals to tell their stories and showcase themselves and their brands. The great love and admiration I have for the city that has been my home since childhood is also part of my inspiration. I thought of a local magazine as a way to show people the difference between the Abuja they know and the Abuja that I have seen. I find almost everything about Abuja city exciting and enthralling, and so is the content of Capital City Magazine for its unique and exclusive features.

In September last year I decided to share the idea with a few friends and colleagues and, just as I hoped, they embraced the idea. They shared their thoughts and ideas with me, leading to a partnership of 6, 5 men and a lady. We, the partners, decided to take full responsibility for our decisions and actions so we share the tasks among ourselves, share the costs and also the benefits. I reached out to talented young up and coming writers, photographers, models and graphic designers to form a team of content developers for different features. That way we all can use the magazine as a platform for achieving our goals and realizing our dreams. The team that makes up Capital City Magazine is one of a kind, I must say. From the photographers, to the writers, the models, the co-editors and the graphic designer, everyone is fun to work with, talented, hardworking and completely committed to the project. Despite the fact that they are all busy with their own daily jobs and businesses, they never fail to show up for impromptu meetings, briefings and photo shoots. This motivates me to keep going and never give up despite the challenges that I face running a project of this nature, a project that requires time, resources, patience, persistence, perseverance and planning.

I have a simple life equation that I apply to whatever I do to achieve a successful outcome. (P+I+C) = S. P = plan, I = implement, C = control and S = Success. This simple but very important equation has totally changed my life in terms of motivation. It is also the exact equation I am applying onto my work on Capital City Magazine. I hope the content of this magazine will blow your minds for its uniqueness and captivating features. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation

The Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation was started by Samira Sanusi and her sister who are both sickle cell survivors. It is an organization that aims to provide awareness for the disease itself and to draw attention to the plight of people, especially those in rural communities that have the sickle cell disease. It raises funds for people who need transplants and other life saving surgeries.

It also runs a campaign that encourages people to find out if they carry the sickle cell or not and whether or not their prospective partner does. This simple measure can spare children a lifetime of agony and pain. In fact, genotype awareness is one of the best ways to stop the disease in its tracks and create the possibility of a sickle cell free generation.

The challenges faced by the SSSCFOUNDATION are mainly financial. The organization requires a lot of funds to carry out tasks that help its cause such as awareness campaigns and funding surgery for those who cannot afford it. It is largely self funded but it does depend on donations from the public as well.

Capital City Magazine truly believes in the good work that this foundation and its team does. We thank them for their efforts on behalf of the millions of men, women and children living with the sickle cell disease. We see them as an inspiration and a beacon of hope, and we will continue to support them in anyway we can.

Please support the SSSCFOUNDATION by donating to the account with details as follows

My Visit To Tutti Fruitti by Maryam Isa

You walk in and think claustrophobia will strike but instead, a cool air welcomes you. The walls bathed in white and baby colors make you think you’re in a hybrid of a worship ground and your napping room back in kindergarten. You’re not here to worship God. You’re not here to sleep. You’re here to indulge in cups of frothy bliss and deliciousness.

It’s a self-serve buffet. You have the power. You’re in control. Anything you want. Anything you wish. Strawberry, Kiwi, Blueberry—fruits you haven’t seen in a while— all swirl down into your cup and etch a huge smile on your face. You’re not done yet. You top off this edible heaven with purple frogs, chocolate spheres, and any candy of your desire.

The man weighs your option. Could he hurry up already? You’re sure you’ve picked the right choice. If it doesn’t suit you, you could do it all again, anyway. You pay. You pick a spoon and take a seat. The heaped cutlery goes into your mouth. Sweet, crunchy, sour, freezing cold combination of paradise. Yes, you’re in paradise on earth. You make sure to clear your schedule for another visit.
